Financial Statements

Financial Statement preparation for small business and not-for-profit clients is a long-standing service of this firm. Depending on the client's needs, monthly, quarterly and year-end balance sheets and detailed operating statements can be prepared and analyzed on a timely basis.

Not-for-profit organizations have many stakeholders and each one has an interest in the financial
affairs of the organization. All stakeholders have a common interest in areas such as:

  • The protection of the assets entrusted to the organization; and
  • The efficient and effective use of the organization’s resources in furtherance of its purpose.

Some stakeholders have quite specific interests. For example:

  • Funders (e.g., governments or foundations) want assurances that their contributions to the organization have been used in accordance with the funding submission and subsequent approval;
  • Donors (particularly major donors) want assurances that their contributions have been applied according to their wishes; and
  • Members have an interest in how their fees have been deployed and more generally in how the organization is performing;

The organization, through its management, has a reporting duty to all of these stakeholders. Financial statements and other financial reports are communication tools that the organization uses to meet the information needs of its stakeholders.

Eligible businesses that experienced a decline in gross receipts or were closed due to government orders and didn't claim the credit when they filed their original return can take advantage by filing adjusted employment tax returns. Eligible employers may still claim the ERC for prior quarters by filing an applicable adjusted employment tax return within the deadline set forth in the corresponding form instructions.

Tax Preparation Services

Business Tax Returns

Small business tax return preparation and filing instructions is a core service offered to our clients. Whether your company is a C corporation, S Corporation, Not-for-Profit, Limited Liability Company, Partnership, or Sole Proprietor, a properly prepared tax return can be filed to minimize the tax owed.

Before we prepare your business tax return, we assess your business's current financial posture and analyze the gaps and plan ahead. By determining the projected marginal tax rate for each year, we can weigh the advantages of accelerating income or deductions. Here some important considerations that we address:

  • Bonus depreciation and expensing rules
  • The newly qualified business income deduction
  • Potential changes to your entity status
  • Compensation deductions
  • Business loss claims

Tax Planning

Tax planning and tax forecasting services for individual and small business clients are a core competency of the firm. Effective tax minimization begins with long-term tax strategizing to establish overall objectives and is maintained with conscientious and consistent annual tax forecasting and mid-year tax planning.

Recent tax reform has added more complexity to planning given that you now have to navigate through a multi-layer tax system in conjunction with running multi-year scenarios to gain a clear picture of the tax landscape in order to advise your clients on virtually all of their personal financial planning decisions. With the more generous estate tax exclusions under the TCJA, the financial planner’s focus will increasingly turn to multi-year income tax planning. The thresholds for having a client become subject to the tax on net investment income and the higher rates on qualified dividends and long-term capital gains are planning areas that will be addressed.

Here are some factors for tax planning consideration: • Basis of assets • Legal title of assets • Choice of business entity • Income in respect of a decedent • Life insurance • Retained incidents of ownership • Assignments • Insurance and retirement plan beneficiary designations and settlement options • Annuities • Employee benefits • Executive compensation • Charitable giving • Income splitting within the family • Alternative minimum tax • Income taxation of trusts • The impact of the NIIT
